I have an idea that involves sensitive material. Essentially if one of my larger competitors were to get ahold of this information, they would be able to implement it into their existing business models and wipe me out. That’s my worst-case scenario and what’s keeping me from seeking further help.
A lot of people feel this way. It’s not really about someone stealing your idea. It’s about proper execution. Think of it this way: You’re never the only person with that idea and even if someone takes your idea, they would literally need to have you to execute the same way that makes it so valuable to you. That being said, there are a few ideas or “features” that can be added onto a company’s already existing product that could wipe you out. For example, subscription sites started popping up everywhere after Dollar Shave Club came up with their cool, new concept. And then Amazon comes around and implements a “Subscribe and Save” feature that is essentially the same thing incorporated into their billion-dollar industry. So relax, keep your head in the game and good luck!
